- Software Grove Messages for Networks - version 1.3
- Additional Information
-
- This file contains information which does not appear in the current manual.
-
-
- 1) Setup protection. Messages has a new setup program. This
- new setup has an additional feature that will give you the
- option of restricting MESSAGE-CENTER installations. You can
- provide a password at the first installation that will be
- required each time a Message-Center is installed. To disable
- this feature, simply click on "Continue" without entering a
- password (only when you are asked to provide the first one).
- Setting or disabling the password is permanent.
-
- 2) Default areacode. Setup provides a place to input your default
- areacode. You can still change it using the Messages' Options
- Editor.
-
- 3) Network database. The default installation will assume that
- you want to read the database cardfiles (inboxes and callers)
- from a central location and will look for them on the network
- path you specify during installation. To read them from your
- local machine, you must provide the full file and pathname
- (e.g., c:\messages\inboxes.crd) using Messages' Options Editor.
-
- 4) Name completion. If the options, COMPLETE_TO_NAME and
- COMPLETE_FROM_NAME, are on, Messages will interactively
- auto-complete any unambiguous name in the For(To) and/or
- From(M) fields (assuming that INBOXES.CRD and CALLERS.CRD
- are provided and contain entries).
-
- 5) Dropboxes. Clicking on the "dropdown arrows" beside the For(To)
- and From(M) fields will toggle display of a listbox of the
- predefined names possible for that field (assuming that INBOXES.CRD
- and CALLERS.CRD are provided and contain entries). The For(To)
- field will allow multiple names to be selected. The From(M) field
- will try to predetermine a subset of names based upon any partial
- name you have already typed.
-
- 6) Login. You can login as any other user, in order to access their
- InBox or to assume their Message-Center rights. You must provide
- a complete pathname to their messages.ini file and know their
- password in order to successfully login.
-
- 7) Startup options. The option, START_AS, allows Messages to start
- as the PAD, LOG, or ICON.
-
- 8) Notification options. The option, POPUP_NEW_MESSAGES, can force
- the PAD or LOG window to popup into any new messages as they are
- received. The existing options, FLASH_NEW_MESSAGES and
- BEEP_NEW_MESSAGES, still work as before. Another option,
- FLAG_NEW_MESSAGES, works like the flashing icon, but changes the
- icon to reflect the flags of the first new message (e.g., URGENT).
-
- 9) User flags. Each message may be flagged with any of three user
- flags. These can be used by you to mean anything and are easily
- toggled on/off. They are simply displayed as 1,2,3.
-
- 10) Printing options. New single-line printing formats are provided
- (printing a log, or using the listltr.frm template). In addition,
- printing any multiple-message form with less than a full page of
- messages will prompt you for the starting point. For example, if
- you selected two messages to print on the 4up form, you could specify
- the lower two quadrants to be used. This will allow you to save
- paper.
